As the bumpersticker says, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could." My dad was from Texas, my mother from Oklahoma so it made sense to head back this way after World War II ended. We came to Texas in 1954 and I've lived most of my life in Wichita Falls
I'm the President of Wichita Falls Creative Writers. I write mainstream fiction. I've published the first in the Kirkland Family Saga, Come Hell or High Water. The second story in the series, The Hell About Stallions, will be ready by summer, the third, probably sometime early in 2011.
I love watching people and listening to the way they express themselves -- and how they don't at all sometimes. Some times, it's an expression or a hand motion that I find interesting enough to incorporate into my writing.
Besides writing, I also love the outdoors, in particular, my own back yard. Visit my blog at www.kirklandschoice.blogspot.com We've created a beautiful sanctuary in the middle of the city . We have a small pond with a waterfall. In the pond you'd see gold fish, one koi and two curious turtles named Dude and Chicken. There's a box turtle out in the yard, too, who daily in the summer comes up onto the patio to be fed. We put out seed for the birds and squirrels, so there is always a lot of activity to watch and bird song to be heard if you are a nature lover.

COME HELL OR HIGHWATER is the first installment in the four part Kirkland Family Saga. It is set in 1958 on a cattle ranch between Burkburnett and Wichita Falls, Texas. Revis Kirkland is the main character in all four stories but the focus of Come Hell or High Water is Revis’ newly forming relationship with his eight-year-old illegitimate son, Toby. Revis’ nineteen year marriage to Holly is already in serious trouble when Toby’s mother brings him out to the ranch and tells Revis it’s his turn to take care of the boy. Fully aware that Toby’s presence in the home will not be welcome, Revis vows to keep his son -- come hell or high water. Two weeks later, Toby disappears and the search is on to find him and bring him home.
Woven into this story are many interesting characters including, Revis’ foreman, Luke McKinney, Luke’s daughter, Amanda, and five colorful cowboys, Jones, Colt, Scooter, Jake and Spence. Also adding intrigue to the story is a long standing feud between the Kirkland Ranch and the volatile Logan family of Burkburnett.
