It’s hard being sixteen. It’s even harder being sixteen and knowing that you’re the culmination ten generations of ancestors who expect you to save one continent and free another. But, there’s a reprieve from the pressure and studying. Nana’s going on her first trip--to the neighboring country of Meta Matta!
And her best friends, Chrysala Martzin, Princess of Ikuzua, and Talker, a unicorn, are going, too. Seize the moment! No more studying! No more minding every word they speak. No more parents! Just new places and faces.
And, how droll, the King is sending them as lowly apprentice caravanners with no more responsibilities than the average peasant would have in the same position.
Except, peasants have to ride just as far as the other caravanners. And then they have to clean the dishes at the end of each long, exhausting, dusty day--for two hundred, hungry, grumpy, savage, Ikuzuan caravanners! And apprentices draw the worst watches. And don’t forget grooming and packing the evil natured, baggage horses.
But the trip would still be easier than being at home if it weren’t for the other . . . problem. Nana’s family of wizards have given her a set of talismans, a ring, diadem, sword, armor, and shield, to keep her safe. But what her family doesn’t know is that the talismans possess a sentience of their own. And that sentience likes to attract any nearby trouble to the hero who wears them.
