Today, I received a letter from Dorrance Publishing who claimed they had found my book listed in the Library of Congress, and they wanted to publish my book. Okay, so several things screamed at me immediately. First, when my husband told me the letter was waiting for me, it was addressed to Candace Weisenthal. Last time I checked, Scott is not my husband. Secondly, my registration has not shown up yet on the Library of Congress list as of this month. It has not been long enough. This particular company is listed on the Preditor's and Editor's list and has a horrible reputation. They charge huge fees, do nothing to promote your book, and will own your rights. Please, if you get a letter from this company do not take it as a serious agent query. It is anything but....

You are so very welcome. I have been down that road (horrible publisher who was not reputable) and do not wish that on anyone, which is one of the many reasons I am so glad for Off the Bookshelf.
